If parts of the university look oddly familiar to you, there’s a reason why. A number of scenes from the Harry Potter movies have been filmed at Christchurch College, which you can tour with EF. You’ll also get a panoramic view of the campus from the top of St. Mary the Virgin's tower. And if you’re going to spend any time on campus, you’ve got to try the punting thing at least once. (Basically punting is when you and your friends pile into a flat-bottom boat and float down the River Cherwell while you steer, standing up, with a long pole and your friends try to topple you over…) Another Oxford tradition is to bring a picnic to a performance of one of Shakespeare’s plays, performed in the open air. At night, be sure to catch some live music. Bands like Radiohead got their start here.
EF in
EF’s Global Village in Oxford is one of our longest-established and most popular. You’ll see upwards of 20 nationalities represented at EF Centre. You can even choose to live with EF students from around the world at our residence on the campus of a college. (Alternatively, you can choose total immersion by living with an English host family.) We offer a range of English courses to suit every need. (You can even combine English lessons with acting lessons from a professional coach with EF’s new Action Acting course.) Study visits will get you out using your new English skills. Take a walking tour of Oxford’s 39 colleges. Visit the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology, one of the world’s oldest, founded in 1683. Check out some serious dinosaur bones and a stuffed woolly mammoth at the Museum of Natural History. EF’s weekly Activities Board will keep you busy during free time. The sporty will want to compete in EF’s World Cup football tournament. The not-so sporty can still enjoy our Looney Lympics—prepared to get silly, messy and wet. There’s a citywide scavenger hunt to find a treasure hidden by our staff. And don’t forget, DJs are spinning the hottest summer dance hits at the EF Disco four nights a week at Oxford’s best nightclub.
